How far do you go to promote Beatles Day?

Beatles Day 11 T-shirts have gone global with committee member Graham How sporting his around Sydney, Australia on a recent visit down under.

Pictured in the sunshine outside the iconic Sydney Opera House, Graham was pleased to be spreading the word throughout the city. “Hastings is famous the world over, so now is Beatles Day!” he said. “Although, to be honest, I don’t expect too many visitors form Oz turning up on Sunday!”

The T-shirts, in adults and children’s sizes, will be available at Beatles Day on Sunday for just £10 but you had better hurry as last year, they had sold out by the evening.

HELP - we need somebody!

In 2009 Macmillan Cancer Support held the 10th Beatles Day at the White Rock Theatre Hastings.
Hundreds of local people came and saw over 350 musicians, singers and dancers perform Beatles music live from 12 noon to 11pm. Everyone who came really enjoyed themselves and we raised an amazing £14,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

We are going to hold another Beatles Day this year on Sunday April 11th, but running costs have risen considerably, up by 50%.

Are there any organizations, companies or individuals who could help us through sponsorship?  We would of course recognize our sponsors in programmes and other advertising.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people living with cancer in East Sussex by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

If you can help please e-mail mail@hastingsbeatlesday.org.uk or contact Dave or Doreen Upwood on 01424 420356.  Thank you.

Beatles Day 9 raises £11,515.86 for Macmillan

Beatles Day 9, held at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings on Sunday 6th April has broken all records, raising a fantastic £11,515.86 for Macmillan Cancer Support. All the money raised goes to help people in Sussex affected by cancer. This is a fantastic amount raised by a fantastic group of people.

It was, without doubt, the best ever, with 55 individual acts featuring over 250 musicians, singers and dancers keeping the hundreds of people who braved the snow entertained for over ten and a half hours of live music from the Beatles and Lennon and McCartney back catalogue.

The day had a host of memorable performances with an eclectic mix of a Cappella, blues and jazz to Pink Floyd influenced rock but particular high spots were organiser Pete Prescott’s
10 year old daughter Poppy performing She’s Leaving Home, and Norwich-based Brooke and Geoff Sharkey who received a rousing demand for an encore with their beautiful and haunting versions of Here, There and Everywhere, and Yesterday.

After a faultless live performance of the entire Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album with Claire Hamill singing George Harrison’s Within You, Without You to perfection, the multi-talented SubMarino Marinos featuring Blair Mackichen and Steve Furst finished the evening with a hot, Latin medley which can only be described as manic.

Pete Prescott was full of praise for everyone who took part. “Everyone was amazing” he said. The musicians, technicians, everyone back stage, the Macmillan volunteers, the staff and management of the White Rock, all the sponsors and everyone who came along and helped us reach our target. We couldn’t have done it without you”.

All the money raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support to help people in Sussex affected by Cancer.
